Gratitude is a powerful emotion. Searching the internet for “gratitude in healthcare” can yield upwards of 10 million results. Most of these results are linked to helpful and informative articles, research studies, and other materials which validate that gratitude is a powerful emotion that can have a very positive impact in healthcare. However, despite such a plethora of information, healthcare professionals rarely seem to focus specifically on the power of patient and family gratitude, which can and often does add significant value in numerous ways, including enhancing patient and family experience, reducing clinician burnout, and expanding philanthropic support.
